ABOUT TMAG

HIDDEN CREATURE GALLERY

Based at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery in Hobart, TMAG Hidden Creature Gallery gives children and their families a unique opportunity to engage with exhibits at the museum.

Objects, artworks and artefacts at TMAG have been selected as the basis to create 25 animated creatures.

Participants in the experience are able to watch and listen to these creatures. Hear them as they talk about their lives before they became part of the museum, and their lives now that they are in the museum.

It's a unique and amazing way to see TMAG’s exhibits come to life!

TMAG Hidden Creature Gallery is an experience where you can search for hidden augmented reality creatures inside the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, and see them come to life in your smart device. To do this, we created a mobile app that has been developed by Mark Egan at Undersea Creative in partnership with Arena Theatre Company.
To use, follow the steps below:

  1. Download TMAG Hidden Creature Gallery from the app store on your device.

  2. Allow camera access and ensure you have mobile or wifi coverage for the app to work.

  3. Make sure your device sound is on (not set to silent). We recommend the use of headphones for the best experience.

  4. Search for markers around the designated area, which are clues as to where the creatures are hidden

  5. When found, with the Hidden Creature Gallery app open, hold your phone about 1 metre away from the target, scan the marker and wait for the creature to come to life.

Markers look like this:
